Pharos REC20 GPS Receiver OnlyReviewsThis GPS receiver was packaged and rebranded with a Microsoft logo with Streets and Trips, and is almost worthless. You can count on this receiver not receiving anything if you have any amount of trees, buildings, or less-than-perfect weather conditions. In a vehicle in the most perfect conditions it only manages about four satellites, and that's with a clear sky and no surroundings. Please try to stay away from this GPS receiver. Pharos Traveler GPS 565E - Handheld - Windows Mobile 6.5 Classic - PXA310 624 MHz - RAM: 256 MB - ROM: 512 MB - 3.5" color TFT ( 240 x 320 ) - IrDA, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi - GPSReviewsI bought mant things from Amazon but this is my first review for a product. I bought this Windows Mobile PDA about a month ago to replace my old PalmOne Zire 31. Basically I wanted to have a organizer with office functions so that I could do some office work on road. I also needed a wireless connection for me to check emails outside of my office. Of course, laptop can do these jobs but it is not convenient to carry on all the time. This product is very good to serve my purposes. It can creat and edit Word and Exel files; it can also do slide show of PowerPoint but can not edit PP files. I tried to use ShowMate to perform a slide show in a projector and this device did connect with the ShowMate via bluetooth and project the slides onto the projector. However, the connection between the PDA and ShowMate is not stable and easy to be lost. Also, the PDA was freezen frequently during slode show onto the projector. I updated the firmware of the ShowMate and expect the connection could be more stable but have not tried yet. Internet connection through wi-fi is good and easy for low security network. I can easily connect with the wireless at my home (DSL), in hotels and coffee shops. But the biggest downside for wireless connection is that this device does not support WPA2-enterprise, AES and PEAP wireless connection which is a popular highly secured wireless network in most universities including my university. I asked our university IT people for help and they spent more than two hours on it but it could not connect with our wireless network. I contacted the tech support of Pharos and they said they are working on this issue. After extensive research on this issue, I found this seems a common issue for Windows Mobile devices. Hopefully they can solve this problem very soon. A nice feature of this device is the GPS capability. It has build-in GPS but no software provided. I bought a third-party software (Navigon MobileNavigator 7) and it worked nicely in this PDA. I am pretty satisfied on the GPS function. It can even detect GPS signal inside buildings where my regular car GPS could not. So the sensitivity is very good but it takes several minutes to obtain the signal when inside the buildings. Overall, it is a good product but do not expect to replace your laptop with this PDA, especially for presentations using PowerPoint. Average Rating:![]() |

Compactflash Adapter Allows GPS360ReviewsAllows me to use my device without all the extra cables! Have had no problems with it. Anyone who uses Microsft Streets & Trips know that the mobile user will not likely have their laptop going with a cable hanging out attached to a reciever that has a suction cup that does not work (due to the design and location of it). This device allowed me to stick my reciever into my Dell Axim, and now I have GPS in a handheld format that works flawlessly. This is a great idea and a great product. Thank You. was not sure this would work in my old dell axim X5. But It really works great.I use it with tom tom nav5,street and trips as well as delorme atlas 2007 and works well with all. I like the tom tom because of address to address tracking. This works great with my Dell Axim X50 and Ostia software. The first one I had broke, but I used to let the Axim hang by the cable so it was mostly my fault that it broke. I bought a new one and now I have a proper holder for the Axim that sticks to the window via a suction cup so I've had no more problems. Bought the adapter for my Pocket PC; Jornada 540; theoretically not supported by M$ Streets06. It took a while (7 minutes) for the GPS to obtain a fixed signal for the first time, at first I thought it didn't work; I placed it on the windowsill. It detected 2 satellites; I took it around town and it picked up a total of 9 satellites. The more satellites the more accurate it was. Now I cycle the units power and it fixes on 2 satellites within a minute with the unit in the house away from the window; at times the signal drops in the house; signal is always present outside. I'm assuming it needs an initial location the first time; that might explain why it took a while to detect the satellites. Average Rating:![]() |

Sony 8 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player (Black)ReviewsThis is very easy to use. I had one and decided to get on for my husband. The software is easy and it holds a ton of music and video and pics. I only wish there were more functions for organizing music files and managing playlists. This thing is a work horse. I've have been using it heavily for 2 years now. Same strong charge, never freezes works perfectly. Use a silicone cover! I recommend Sony Walkman mp3 players to all my friends and clients! I got this MP3 player about 2 years ago now, and it's still working as good as the day I took it out of the box. I've dropped it more times than I can remember and it's still kicking. Granted I have a nice silcon case on it, but still after two years of abuse for it to even be in one piece is amazing.I use this player everyday. Mostly to fall asleep to a book. The sound quality is excellent, and the battery life is the best of any I've ever owned. Sony rates it at about 24 hours battery life, just out of curiosity I let it play and it didn't die for well over 36 hours. I've not used this too much with video, honestly that's not what I got it for though. I mostly use it for audiobooks/music. It's very simple to load and remove songs. I ordered one of these for my dad, and he's not the most computer savvy person, and he has no problems with it. It's pretty much plug in, click, and go. The space on it is sufficient for me. I have 8 books on it at the moment(one of the books is 37 hours), as well as about 600 songs and still could fit some more.If you need a player for video, I'd opt for something more than 8gb, but for just music it's enough. The only downside I've ever found with this player is the innability to make playlists on the go. The player before this had that function and it was nice to be able to pic a playlist from my songs to fit my current mood, but that's a tiny issue. So all in all, I'd recommend this player to just about anyone. i really dont understand why it costs so much on amazon. its a really good mp3 player but i wasnt willing to spend that much on it. so i bought a refurbished one. it hasnt arrived yet but i know its good because i used to have one until it got stolen. (i guess thats how good it is). but i would definently recommend this to anyone, just not for $90.00. thats outrageous. but great overall. All in all a very good product. Playlists are incredibly hard to make but it has very good battery life. Average Rating:![]() |

Pharos PB010 IGPS-500ReviewsHad trouble getting the correct driver. No drivers on the disk for Vista 64-bit laptops. Had to get help from Microsoft and Pharos to get the problem fixed. E-mailed drivers from Pharos come in zipped form and will not open, had to have Pharos send me a disk with an unzipped file. Microsoft had to delete old file drivers from the program to get the new drivers to work. This unit came with Streets & Trips 2009 and failed in less than 60 days. Pharos is replacing it with a new one under warranty but will only give a 30 day warranty on the replacement GPS. The original had a 1 year warranty. Proceed with caution. This was just the thing to go with a laptop and a program like MS Streets and Trips. Huge improvement over older larger devices I have used in the past. Pharos GPS-500 and Bluetooth Connector - These are nice additions to my HP iPaq 2495 PDA. I did have some trouble installing it initially, but once the bugs were worked out, it tested fine and was able to pinpoint my location within a few feet. I am using Mobile Google Earth for the mapping with the PDA; since its a PDA and not a smart-phone, I access the Internet with my PDA using my Motorolla Razr as a modem and it's bluetooth connection [to the PDA]. The GPS unit with the Bluetooth connection works well. I would recommend this for persons wanting to connect their PDA's to a GPS unit. Those users must understand that most of the new mapping technology requires an Internet connection with your PDA because Microsoft Streets & Trips doesn't exist for PDA's anymore. Microsoft Live Search and Mobile Google Maps require the Internet connection for their maps; this requires less space on your PDA, but you need Internet connection for your service. Good Product. My first GPS receiver developed problems after about 5 years of constant use. I replaced it with this newer receiver and it works great. I like the fact that I can use the cable included or plug straight into the USB port on my laptop if desired. Connection is simple and the units small size makes it easy to use. GPS Receiver: Microsoft Pharos GPS-500 III GPS ReceiverReviewsI needed a GPS solution that didn't break the bank. After using a Garmin while on vacation, once, I had fallen in love with the concept. I figured I needed to get a solution of my own. After a bit of research I opted to go with this one and I haven't been disappointed yet. The versatility of the chipset allows me to use a variety of F/OSS applications that fulfill most if not all of my GPS needs. The easy integration with Google earth as well as my PDA was an added plus. Thank the Lord I'll never be lost again! Average Rating:![]() |

Pharos 535+ Traveler 3.5-Inch Screen Portable GPS Unit with Wi-Fi and Windows Mobile OfficeReviewsThe unit is great for organizing your everyday tasks, making a friendly reminder for your self or others to get stuff done, and it works great for making stuff like grocerylists. Then on top of that the GPS allows you go anywhere without geting lost (driving or walking around) and the wireless adapter allows you to surf the web in wifi hotspots. If you looking for a small computer/motepad/GPS that is rugged and small enough to fit in your pocket this is the perfect product for you! The Pharos 535+ is an attractive unit with a nice case and potentially useful features. Unfortunately there are two main problems: (1)it uses Windows Mobile rather than Palm OS, (2) (and more importantly) the GPS function was unable to establish sufficient connections to work. I live in the mountains, which doesn't keep my two Garmins from working, but perhaps the Pharos GPS only works in the flatlands. I returned my Pharos after a couple frustrating weeks of attempting to get the GPS to work. The PDA functions of Windows Mobile are also not as easy to use as those of a Palm OS unit. I recommend finding a refurbished Garmin iQue 3600 if you want a GPS/PDA combination. I am very happy with the Pharos I travel every week and rent cars The GPS is great gets me where i have to go and very easy to use Average Rating:![]() |
