I bought the Nor Cross HawkEye to use ice fishing. It will show if fish are in the area, but I could not tell how close the fish were. The depth finder works great. The see through the ice feature will not work unless you freeze the sensor to the ice. I would much rather use a flasher for ice fishing, but if you only use it as a depth finder it works great.

The unit was purchased mainly for ice fishing and it has performed well. Not very good in shallow water, but they tell you that. It will shut down in cold temps and you will have to warm it up. I really like the portability and ease of use. It will definitly help you catch more fish. No more drilling 100 holes trying to locate fish. I will use it this spring also on a small river I fish. Hopefully it will help me locate some nice walleye or smallmouth.

Put in lithium batteries as alkaline does not work well in cold. So far this fishfinder does its job.

I tried this while ice fishing- it gave wildly varying depth readings when it did sense the bottom and couldn't find the bottom at all in more than 30 feet of water. This was while sitting on 18" of ice, and yes I did get the transducer below the bottom of the ice. However, Amazon customer service was flawless. It was really easy to return and my CC was promptly credited.

I purchased the cover when I ordered the fish finder. I like the cover very much. It fits snugly and protects the product while I have the fish finder on the shelf or in transport. It's a handsome looking product as well. My grandson found that it made a pretty good drum on our last outing. After his drum solo I checked my fishfinder and it was still scratch free and worked perfectly. BTW, I do not suggest allowing your grandchildren to use the fishfinder and cover as a drum. LOL Kids will be kids.

This cover is great it fits and keeps my screen safe when the unit is rolling around my truck. However, it does suck that it didnt come with the unit. I mean someone gave me a case for my 100dollar sunglasses when I bought them, you'd think they could throw one cover in when you buy a 500dollar fishfinder. I would think it would save alot of trees and petrolium if they did'nt send the cover with 22 pounds of garbage paper and plastic. (Yes plastic is mainly a petrol product) So if I were HUMMINBIRD I would stick one of these in every depth finder box you sell and mark the unit price up a few bucks. I ain't no hippie but between the unit cover and the mount cover thats more garbage than the unit box. its stupid. how you derin?

I have purchased numerous products from Amazon. This one, like all in the past was as advertised. It is the same transducer that came with my Humminbird originally and worked flawlessly when hooked up. Shipping was fast also!

I bought this transducer to replace the broken one on my Hummingbird Matrix 17 Fishfinder and it works perfectly. I recommend this transducer to anyone who needs one for any of the older Matrix units. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.

Like others, I found out the hard way that this transducer did not have a temperature feature that worked on my 595C. It was promised as noted below in the selling point feature: "Includes 20-foot cable, necessary mounting hardware, and built-in temperature sensor" I need another one and will NOT be buying it here.

The mount is a very poorly designed piece of plastic. It will not rotate at all, it has VERY limited forward tilt capability, it has VERY limited backward tilt capability,it is difficult to release the unit to remove it, the depth finder goes off from loss of contact when you hit waves and when the unit is not on it the contacts are sitting in a completely exposed position(unless you buy the OPTIONAL cover.) It is simply a terrible design overall and I'm surprised that it is still around. I'm even more surprised that anyone could give it a 5 star rating. John Mills

I was very pleased with how easy it was to mount this base for my unit. I am very happy with how easy it is to remove my unit from the base without having to un-hook the different cables.

Got this to allow me to move my Humminbird 798 ci SI unit from the driver's side to the bow. Works like a charm!

Bought two, one for the console and one for the front. They work good and I've had no issues.

Removing the fish finder for transport is a good idea, but what about the connections? This keeps them from filling up with bugs and dirt while you tow. Highly recommended.

This little cover seems like a throwaway and could easily be replaced by a piece of cardboard and some duct tape, but for the price and what it does, it works perfectly. You probably don't need it if your boat parks under a canopy, but mine is in the open, so having this keeps the rain from the connections. Being someone who believes electricity sits in a wire after the power is shut off, I figure anything to keep the power connections from rusting can't be a bad idea.

This little rubberized cover works perfect when the boat is in storage and the fish finder is not in use - it keeps out dust and debris. It does not have a tight enough fit that I would trust it to stay on while towing though.

Fits snug, but I would not keep it on when going down the road unless you add a rubber band to hold in place. I knew this before ordering. Does what it is suppose to do and that is to keep the elec. conections clean. Great product that should of came with the bird...

I had ordered a Humminbird Model 727 fish locator installed on my new pontoon boat. Not that I fish much but I boat in an area that has shallow areas and a fish locator provides a better means of detecting (and trending) shallow spots in order to increase the longevity of my prop and lower unit. While reading the product manual (this was mostly because I couldn't locate any fish) I noted the unit was "GPS ready". Since I was questioning the accuracy of the boat's speedometer I figured adding a GPS unit would give accurate info - plus be more electronics to play with! Once I figured out what the installation guide was telling me it took only a couple minutes to connect and as soon as I turned the fish locator on I starting getting data. I temporarily mounted the receiver sending unit (duct tape!) so I could move its location about in order to insure proper reception. Accuracy is in thousands of a Minute Lat/Long (e.g. Latitude 42 degrees, 21.349 minutes). Using the "bread crumb trail" mode I found I could retrace my course and position my boat to within 10 or 20 feet of my original course. I'm thinking this will be handy this coming Saturday nite when we pass thru shallow areas in order to go to this upriver festival while it's sober and light out but not so much of either on the way back. As far as negatives, about the only thing I can think of is the limitation of using both GPS and Fish Locator at the same time. There are some split screen modes, and some data from each function display regardless of selected viewing mode ... Aw hell, it's probably mostly because I bought the low end fish locator!
