Nortech Navigator 3.5" TouchScreen Car Mobile GPS SystemReviewsWhat a shame! no updates! thank god I bought this gps 2nd hand. Very limited as all the listings for updates in the manual are non-existant and no uploads are available. Wasted my $$. Save your bucks and get a Garmin or another "trusted" name in a GPS. My wife bought this through Sam's Club and the car charger broke. Sam's says it was a closeout and doesn't sell cords and the ferros - the distributor says the GPS is no longer made. I have looked on the net for hours and been to Radio Shack, Best Buy, and Circuit City and the car charger insert is a unique size and cannot be matched. Don't buy this one. I bought my son a GPS (garmin) for 1/2 the price and it works twice as well. Purchased from Sams club. Aftrer 2 months power cord broke could not find replacement. Looked on net for Web page for Nortech with no luck. I would not recommend this unit. I can't figure out why no one knew how to update this product. The detonator update is on the bottom on the product itself, right under where it's manufactured! I entered my code and my detonator software doesn't expire until 2102. My device will die before then, lol. The only problem people have had with this product is software that can't update, if they figured out this... 3.5 inches is perfect for a 28 year old. I dunno who people were buying this for, 80 year olds? If so, get off the street and stop kiling people, gramps. The price is good, but you will never get the maps updated. The preloaded maps are in 2005, and I found several locations in the map are incorrect in the first month of using it. So I was trying to update the maps, but there is no driver/software for the GPS. I have to read the manual very carefully to find a link (printed as a tiny line), where I can find a software to connect the GPS to computer. But, it turns out that the software is just a general synchronization program for portable devices. Also, the website mentioned in the instruction for map downloads does not support the Nortech GPS. I have to contact with the costumer service to ask about how to update the map (which took me quite a while to figure out which one is the real costumer service for the GPS). After one week, they mailed me a CD, containing the "latest" (in 2006, some in 2005) maps they have. I thought I could finally update the maps, but I was wrong again. I was so wise that I didn't update the local map for my state immediately, instead, I tried to update a map for another state. The update failed, with the map file corrupted. The reason was that the memory space was not enough. However, when I tried to delete some map (the map in Alaska), some other error prompted out. So, that means I cannot delete, therefore cannot update maps without adding SD card. I haven't tried to add additional SD cards, and I won't try anymore, since the update is EXTREMELY slow anyway (it took >3 hours before complaining disk full in a 140MB update). Also I am afraid to mess up the map files, since it has passed the 90-day warranty period. So I will just get used to the map with some errors. Average Rating:![]() |
