Reviews

I've had my Nav-Cam 7700 for about a month now and I think it is very good for the money. The positioning is very accurate, handling and set up is very easy, compared to some otheres I tried. I love the features in the GPS mode, for example speed and direction. The only drawback I see is the user manual. I've been thinking of writing my own with the stuff I find as a use it more and more

The software that comes with this gps is horrible, however, this can be hacked to use tomtom 6.00 and its maps. google, is your friend.

I got this GPS and the very first observation was that it is not address based device but a general area based device. Its GPS system is not bad or in-accurate, it is the application on top which is really non professional. You have to navigate to a block of address in a street which may be as far as couple of miles. The second observation is related to display of information. You can only select to view one of the parameters out of speed, time to destination, time , distance , distance remaining etc. You have to change the options during driving to view the others. The hardware is otherwise good. Compact size, good gps locking, good lcd, no glare for sunlight etc can match any of the high priced devices. The device is windows CE based and it is possible to unlock the gps and run different applications like video player, games etc. You can also run better gps front end applications (after some research) like tomtom navigator on this device and the package can be as good as any of the expensive gps devices in the market.

This is my only experience with a voice prompt navigation unit so, my opinion is limited in value. I think the Evesham Nav-Cam 7700 is pretty good. I love little gadgets and this kept me occupied for hours just getting to know it. Not ever trying the Garmin Nuvi, I have to assume it is better for the higher price though I also could not say the Nuvi would be worth the extra money. I can say the Evesham has little "bugs" if you want to call them that. It does not always pick the route you would think was the obvious first choice but, you can ask for different routes. Of course, driving around my part of town is not the best way to judge it. I've taken it out of town a couple of times now and it did well getting me to the points of interest. Some of the functions were a little funny like the estimated time of arrival seamed to keep getting pushed back though my travel speed did not change too much. I still have not used it to take me to a specific address i.e. 1234 Elm St. When you find the street you want it to route you to it gives you the different block numbers i.e. 1000-1999, 2000-2999 and you choose which one you want. I think I have to learn that function better. I would say it is a great entry level GPS navigation and with its millions of points of interest it should get you to the air port, restaurant, coffee house or whatever.
