Takes too long to acquire satellite signal. Hard to use and not worth the money.

I took this to Peru and it got me back to my base camp near Lima from the jungles in northern Peru and from the mountains in southern Peru. It has a 1,000 mile range on it and the memory markers were easy to set. In the states I have used it on the Appalachian trail with no problems at all. I've also used it when visiting cities like Charleston and Savannah when there is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant I want to find again. It is very rugged and the battery is still reliable. As far as accuracy, it gets me within 5 meters of my markers every time.

I parked near a long beach and relied on the Backtrak to guide me back to my car. It took a very long time to locate my initial position. I walked out some distance and turned back. The closer I got to the car, the more it shifted directions. If I'd followed it, I'd have become a pretzel.

I've had my BackTrack for nearly 2 months now. Once you master what the 2 control buttons do, it's very simple to operate. It is quite accurate when identifying a location you've saved. I did a test by saving a spot in the middle of my front lawn. I turned the unit off, then turned it back on while standing a few feet away on the driveway. The BackTrack correctly identified that my saved location was about 5 yards away and it pointed in the correct direction. It helps if you are somewhat aware of your surroundings and can use some common sense along with the information displayed by the BackTrack in order to find your saved location. I wouldn't rely too heavily on which way the direction arrow is pointing. When you're in the process of trying to return to a saved location, the direction arrow does not always point in the exact direction of your saved location. If you keep in mind that the direction indication is not exact, you'll find the BackTrack works quite well. The compass function works about as well as the direction finding indicator. When using the compass, the direction arrow points generally north. If an accurate compass is important to you, you might want to carry an old-fashioned magnetic compass as well. Here are some important things to remember when using the BackTrack. Any time the unit is on, the back of the unit should be parallel with the ground. If you hold it like a compass, then drop your hand down to walk, then bring the unit back up level, your readings will probably not be accurate. Once the unit is powered off, you can put it into any orientation and the accuracy won't be affected. I made the mistake of accidentally not shutting off the unit before putting it in my pocket once. When I took it out again and powered it up, the compass was 180 degrees off. If you find the compass is that far off, walk in a figure-8 pattern a few times while holding the unit level and it should re-calibrate. If you have not moved a great distance since the last time you turned on your BackTrack, it does not take very long for it to get a satellite lock on its location. I've moved a couple of hundred miles, then turned the unit on and it took about a minute to lock in. Even with the short-comings of the BackTrack, I am happy with it. For what the unit does, you can't beat the price.

Simply to use, good accuracy and a great price . Purchased to use when riding on ATV Trails. At the parking lot, set the point and drive off. Along the trails, set two addition points. Easy return to parking lot or other two points.

Used the BackTrack GPS during a Spring bear hunt. The device worked perfectly for finding our way back to the truck, the base camp, and on at least two occassions, going back to the location of downed animals the next morning. It does take a few minutes to load so plan accordingly...other hunters can get pretty impatient waiting for you to mark a location if you don't turn on the device until it's time to go. Even the guide was impressed by the small size of the GPS and its ability to get us back to the right locations.

Excellent at locating previous locations that fish are being caught and returning me to within 1 or 2 feet from mark. This device worked much better than more expensive GPS devices. Simplicity is a key selling point. All my fishing buddies bought a backtrack after they saw mine and how it can help them return to "hotspots" in the lake.

This is such a handly little tool, perfect for my needs. Have recommended to friends!

I'm not sure why people are giving this unit such bad reviews. I feel that the Bushnell is very easy to use and very accurate. Also, it is very well constructed, so I don't feel like it will break in my hands like some GPS units. I have a lot of experience with land navigation, and have no problem using this to find my way through the woods. I agree that some of the buttons are a little hard to press, but they are also very rugged and waterproof, so I can't complain about them. The base map is quite basic, but personally, I just care about a distance and direction most of the time anyway. Is it the best GPS you can buy? Definitely not, but it does the job that I ask it to do.

Bought this product because i lost my garmin. What a mistake!!!!!!!!! Basemap is has nothing on it. Takes for ever to lock on to satallites. screen got scratched wiping the rain off of it with a soft glove. Tried to have bushnell refund my money got no support took them a week to even respond to my e-mail.

I could never get topo maps to download to the unit. I was on the phone with Busnell for over an hour and they were suppose to call me back. Never did. I also learned that you can only download a very small area at a time. So I bought a Garmin Colorado 400T instead. It has the entire USA topo maps pre-loaded!!

Purchased this unit for my wife, we call her "wrong way", and she hasn't gotten lost since. It easily finds alternate routes when roads are closed or you decide to go a different route. Just touch the screen left upper hand corner and choose alt. route. There are quite a few of POI places that no longer exist. Smart2go makes the software (appears to be a nokia company) and I'm hoping that it gets updated. Will update review.

The Bushnell Nav 500 is not a good unit for the price that you are paying. I received mine and was unhappy with the system. You can not update the Navigator. I have click on the Bushnell website and the with you click on the tech talk for this system it goes to a different product that they sell. The navigation unit is run by smart2go. When you go to there website to update your system for restrants, and other places you can not. Their is stuff in my area that have been out of business for years and this thing is showing it in there. If you are using the Navigation unit, and their is a road closed or something else is going on. It will not detour you in the correct way. I am returning mine to the store and picking up a different brand. I would not recommend this to anyone. I think that Bushnell should recall all of these back.

Product met all expectations. It is wonderful for the price! I would recommend this to anyone interested in finding out what a difference it can make.

Great value for the money. Had some difficulty loading the software and had to call Bushnell product support to get it done. It had to do with uninstalling Java 64 bit software. After that, it was easy.

My husband loves his Father's Day gift and so does his golf partners. The only drawback was that we found that they no longer include a CD to download the program. It was more difficult to install than formatting my hard drive. Customer support was average but overall it was a great purchase and a very accurate Golf GPS!Bushnell Neo Golf GPS

Excellent GPS for the price. I put it up next to a sky caddy GPS and it was within one or two yards and at times exact yardage. I highly recommend.

Product works as advertise. Received my GPS unit only a couple of days after I ordered it from Amazon (fast service). It does what it's suppose without all the bells and whistles.Simple and accurate and you can play 4 or 5 rounds before you have to charge it. It cost is at least 50% under the other GPS units and you only have to pay one annual fee to download up to 100 courses.

Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC Golf GPS Bushnell Yardage Pro XGC Golf GPS

Reviews

I am now a total expert on Bushnell Golf GPS's having owned the Yardage Pros XG, XGC and Neo. Of these, the XGC was the only one that worked properly. It has problems, but I was able to read yardage. Pros: Good Satellite Reception. Good data (with $35 subscription to iGolf - annual. But you can cancel after a year if you've already downloaded all the courses you want) Solidly made (though very bulky) Good Buttons Works! (more than I can say for my experience w the Neo and XG models) Cons: About 3x bigger than my cellphone (why? My phone has a gps...) A lot of extra crap menus (do you really need an option for News and for course Reviews on this device? Even if you did, the content is totally worthless) BIG CON: The map function didn't really work on the courses I tried. Sometimes the unit would display the correct yardage to the pin in the main display, but the map didn't match the hole. It would show 800 yards because the map would actually be for a different hole). I returned it because I figured if the maps didn't work, I may as well have a NEO which has bigger yardage display and is smaller. TERRIBLE Menu Display: Why would anyone choose to highlight a black menu with dark gray? You can't tell which selection is highlighted in sunlight. Period. Fortunately, you don't really need to choose from those menus during play. Still - the interface options were designed by a lab rat. The Bottom Line: If the NEO actually worked for me (mine wouldn't let me install course data) I would buy a NEO over this in a heart beat. I'm sure the NEO does work for some people, so it might be worth your time to give it a try. BUT since the XGC DID work and seems to be a little bit more modern electronically (e.g. seems to recognize USB natively without pretending it's an old fashioned 1980s serial port), I think I may have to go back to the XGC if I want a golf GPS. As stupidly designed and old fashioned as this device is, it may still be the best out there in terms of simply being a good tool to have on the course without being a hassle. ALL I really want is something that tells me how far to the pin. How far to hazards or dog legs would be nice, but mostly I want distance to pin. Maybe I need a rangefinder, but I don't want to slow down play by pulling out a rangefinder on every shot. I want something where I can just glance at my bag and see the yardage. That's it. The NEO has its own issues, but if it worked, I think it's the most sensible tool for most golfers simply because it is the least intrusive. CUSTOMER SUPPORT: AWFUL!!! Bushnell provides no support email on their website. It takes at least 10 minutes to get someone on the phone. If you do get someone on the phone, they'll be able to answer routine questions, but not much else. They were supposed to get back to me about my defective unit. No call or email back. I get the feeling Bushnell simply doesn't want you to bother them.

I bought the Yardage Pro as a replacement for an iGolf Triton that was stolen. I decided to upgrade to the color version and I'm so happy that I did. The added storage (100 courses vs 10) and the hole map are great additions. Also, I don't have to delete then reload a course to play it again just to reset the score features as with the Triton/XG. Also, I don't have to search for the course I'm playing because it automatically calls up the correct course based on location when it's turned on. Just an amazing unit.

Bushnell XGC was a gift for my son. He uses it constantly; easily can add any courses. Very accurate and small. Great product!

Purchased the unit before christmas, have windows xp and had no problems with the sofware installation. Display is easy to read, even in sunlight. Unit appears to be very accurate, I have yet to check it against my son's laser, but will update when I do. Custom points are easy to add and love the mapped courses that you can measure any point. My only disapointment has come from Igolf. The one course I bought it for is not available, the techs at Igolf keep giving me excuses that the data is not available, even though the course next to it is mapped, and the courses are not 100 yards apart. At certain times of the year, they play an 18 hole tournament that uses both courses, they are so close together and are only nine holes each. They do keep giving my mapping credit back, but one of the reasons I bought the unit was to use it at Malden Country Club. Otherwise, the unit is easy to use, shot measuring is easy, battery life is like it says, about four rounds of golf.

I just received the device today and obviously I was excited to get started on it. The installation experience of the software was horrible. I don't think the software that came with the CD is compatible with Windows 7 yet, the installation always gets stuck at 99%. The Bushnell site had a zip file of the software that says it is compatible with Windows 7 but that didn't work either. I had to move to my other computer which still had Windows Vista to be able to get the software installed. The software is simple but not intuitive. It relies on igolf gps mapping and I dislike how they name the golf courses. I also feel I wasted credits (you get 100 credits for $35/yr) by downloading golf courses twice because they named them (example) Griffith Park course 1 and Griffith Park course 2 but when you look at course 1 download it says 36 holes already the same with course 2. I will update my review after I played with it this weekend. Update: 03/14/2010 Finally able to take it out for a round. The device is accurate. I was using the scoring feature and after I enter my score for each hole, it automatically changes my map for the next hole. It's awesome that it keeps statistics of your game like number of putts, number of pars, bogeys, double bogeys etc. but as soon as you turn it off all that information is gone. It would've been nice if it had a score keeping feature that I could download to my computer for analysis later on. The device is small enough to fit in your pocket and not be bothered knowing it's there. Pointing to a custom point on the map is not that great because you can only move the target by up down and sideways and it moves by a fixed scale. I was actually disappointed with it. But all in all it does what it advertises.
